Elements of Plot
This is the most exciting or interesting part of the story. The turning point. Usually resulting in a change in the main character.
What is the Climax?
This is a simile.
What is a comparison between two unlike things using a signal word such as like or as?
This is Conflict.
What is a struggle between two opposing forces?
The perspective from which a story is told.
What is Point of View?
She was as beautiful as the moon. He fought like a lion in battle. She was as busy as a bee.
What is a simile?
The Denouement.
What is a fancy word for Resolution where all the loose ends are tied up, the conflict is resolved and the story ends.
A direct comparison where one thing is simply said to be the other, does not use signal words.
What is a Metaphor?
An angry dog, snarling and growling, blocks your path as you try to get to school on time, is an example of this type of conflict.
What is external?
These are the types of POV.
What are 1st person, 2nd person, and 3rd person limited and omniscient?
Tito and Tato were tattooed in total.
But Toto was only tattooed on his toe.
So Tato told Tito where Toto was tattooed.
But Tito said Toto's tattoo wouldn't show.
What is Alliteration?
Occurs after the Climax, complications become clearer, events lead to the Resolution.
What is Falling Action?
This is Personification.
What is giving human qualities to non-human things?
Your plane crashes but you survived. The only problem is that there is a snow covered mountain between you and civilization. You feel total despair come over you and consider giving up. As you lay there, you realize you have too much to live for. You make up your mind to battle the mountain for survival.
What is internal and external conflict?
These are the pronouns used in the 3rd person POV.

Life is a highway. All the world's a stage. Her eyes were sparkling diamonds.
What is a Metaphor?
Sets the stage. Setting is revealed, characters are introduced, main conflict teased.

The repetition of consonant sounds, usually at the beginning of words.

The narrator is a character in the story and uses the pronouns I, me, my.
What is 1st person point of view?
That computer and printer have it out for me! I know they are conspiring against me at every turn.
The flowers danced upon Summer's breath.
The sun assaulted them angrily.
What is Personification?
This is the longest part of the story. Characters struggle to overcome obstacles, tension builds leading to the main conflict and climax.
What is Rising Action?
Words and phrases that appeal to one or more of the 5 senses. Words and phrases that create vivid pictures in the reader's mind.
What is Imagery?
You see someone you don't know drop a hundred dollar bill on the ground and continue walking without realizing it. You know if you are quick, you could grab the money and still catch up to the old man and do the right thing. Orrrrr, you could just casually pick up the dough and by the time you look up the old man would be lost in the crowd. You can feel the the tug in your gut.
What is internal conflict?
The narrator is an outside observer and knows all, and sees all.
What is 3rd person omniscient?
The boys locker room was an intense steamy sauna of despair. Every surface was moist, dripping with stale sweat, regret and axe body spray. The rancorous stench burned the olfactory senses, smelling of rotten eggs and sadness.
