The time and place that a story is set in.
Setting

A problem in the story.
Conflict
Tension rises, the character tries to solve the problem(s), but fails.
Rising Action
A literary genre that features stories that could have happened to real people or animals in a believable setting.
Realistic Fiction
The "voice" that is telling the story. This can be a character within the story, or someone watching the story unfold.
Narrator
Why did MY dog have to get sick? Why couldn't it have been anyone else's? My heart shattered knowing there was nothing I could do to change it.
Person vs Fate/Destiny
When the narrator is a character from within the story. You will see words like "I, me, we, us..."
First-Person Point of View

Person vs Society
The main character in the story.
Protagonist
Events after the climax that start to wrap up the loose ends of the story.
Falling Action
A genre of imaginative fiction that features supernatural and magical elements, such as imaginary worlds, creatures, and beings.
Fantasy
The character in the story who is the main source of conflict for the main character. Usually the "bad guy".
Antagonist
As I looked into my sister's eyes, welling up with tears, a wave of guilt and sadness came over me. Why did I have to be such a jerk to her? Of all the people in my life, she is always the kindest to me... Why do I continue to project my emotions onto her? I felt disgusted with myself.
Person vs Self
An object, color, idea, phrase, or person that represents something deeper than what it appears. You will often see these more than once throughout the story.
Symbol
End of the story. This is when conflicts are resolved and there is closure for the characters.
Resolution
It describes an imaginary society that is as dehumanizing and unpleasant. Typically, there is a person or group of people that hold all of the power over their society, and they put laws into place to control their people.
Dystopian
A warning or indication of something that will come later in the story.
