What is the plot?
The part of an argument when you state what side of the argument you are taking.
What is the claim?
When you don't understand a word and you read all the sentences around it, you are using this.
What is context?
To create imagery, the author uses this to help us connect to what the writer sees, hears etc.
What is are sensory details?
The turning point of the story or the most exciting part.
What is the climax?
Once the claim is made, you must support it with these two things.
What are reasons and evidence?
A phrase or idea that is overused in stories.
What is cliché?
A device in which a writer places clues in a story to prepare the reader for events that are going to happen later.
Who is the foreshadowing?
The part of the story where the action builds and the conflict often gets worse.
What is rising action?
A persuasive appeal that uses logic and reason. Hint: It is a Greek word and we learned about 3 different persuasive appeals.
What is logos?
The dictionary definition of a word.
What is denotation?
When something that is said or done is the opposite of what you would expect.
What is irony?
The end of the story when everything gets wrapped up.
What is resolution?
A persuasive appeal that uses emotion (pulls at people's heart strings).
What is the pathos?
The associations that go along with a word, like feelings and ideas.
What is connotation?
The attitude that comes from the writer or speaker.
What is tone?
The part of the story where the characters, setting, and conflict are introduced.
What is exposition?
A persuasive appeal that relies on credibility and trustworthiness (and sometimes celebrities).
What is the ethos?
A phrase that can not be taken literally, but is generally understood within a culture. For example, "A penny for your thoughts."
What is an idiom?
The main idea or message that a literary work conveys.
