Clean jointed is a term that can be utilized through all livestock- both breeding and market. The term cleaner jointed usually refers to the amount of swelling, or lack there of, on the animals hock. Being swollen jointed or puffy hocked is the opposite of clean jointed, and is clearly a negative. Having swelling on an animals joint work is typically correlated with a structure problem or injury and can hinder that way the animal moves, being very painful.

Belted refers to a color pattern found primarily in hogs. This color pattern will have a white portion of skin/hair typically wrapped around the body, with black skin/hair on either side at the head and rump. The amount of white is very variable and can be a very thin strip, to a very wide stripe covering most of the ribcage. While belted hogs are predominantly black like Hampshires, there are also red belted hogs and blue belted hogs. The belt will always be white, but the red and blue would be the color on either side of the belt covering the rest of the hogs body.
