Montage
It is the start of a Long Form Performance which can be anything (a monologue, word association, song), and is used to set the theme around which players will be improvising.
Opening
•the art form of acting without a written script.
Improvisation
•when an actor moves to change a scene but becomes hesitant/gets cold feet.
Improv Foot
The person who welcomes the audience and introduces the players.
Host
A long-form improvised form that is a collage of scenes inspired by a single suggestion which are interwoven and connected.
Harold
•the performance layout of improve scenes and games.
Set
•a style of improvisation based less on games and more about stories with developed narratives/characters.
Long-form Inmprovisation
•The lineup of players in a troupe, when they are not participating in a scene. Usually done at one of the sides of the stage.
Sideline
•Recycling a situation or character from a previously played scene. Can be funny but use sparingly.
Running Gag
Long form format starting with a storytelling-style monologue, based on audience suggestion. Afterwards, players play improvised scenes inspired by monologue, & monologue may even continue, later on in the set.
Armando
•when a person taps a player on the shoulder, and replacing that player.
Tag Out
•Common method of Advancing scenes: accept everything said and/or done and do something with it.
Yes And
•a scene in which all characters stand still talking through the scene.
Talking Heads
•The first information provided (the first move) in an improve scene.
Initiation
A long form format with scenes in which at every scene switch, the `oldest` character disappears & a new scene is played with the remaining character, & a new one. The form ends when the circle “closes” & the last and first characters do a scene.
La Ronde
•the process of changing a scene by across it and swipe arms/clapping.
Swipe
•The process of moving the scene forwards.
Advancing
•Forcing your own ideas. Not a good thing.
Driving
Physically becoming something inhuman.
Embodiment
2 actors start an improvized scene. At any point in time another player can call out specific word. This player then tags out one of the 2 actors, and takes his place. Both players then start a new scene, justifying their positions.
Freeze
Stepping out of the reality of a scene to acknowledge or reference back to a different scene of location.
Commenting/Cut-To(Back)
An offer that specifically assigns characteristics or attributes to another performer's character.
Endowing
Joking, doing funny things, using verbal wit without advancing the scene.
Gagging
Recycling or re-suing ideas or situations from earlier or from previous scenes.
