The conch is used as a symbol of order and civilization. The boys use the conch at meetings to speak their concerns. The person holding the conch gets the command of the group. When the conch breaks, it symbolizes the complete downfall of civilized behavior.

Why do the boys tease Piggy? EXPLAIN!
He is an easy target - was teased in school for being fat, asthmatic and wearing glasses. He is not physically strong, even though he is mentally strong. Piggy represents the idea of survival of the fittest.
