Problem-solving methodology that focuses on the reduction and elimination of waste.
These are the four steps in a PDCA project:
Plan, Do, Check, Act
This tool visualizes a process at the highest level. (View)
SIPOC
Typically, a group discussion that's designed to produce innovative ideas.
Brainstorming
AKA Fishbone Diagram. Allows the analysis to branch off into predetermined directions.
Ishikawa Diagram
Quality measurement that translates DPMO into a score, with “6” being the highest level you can achieve.
Sigma Levels
The most commonly used project type
DMAIC
This tool visualizes process steps in chronological order.
Process Map
Japanese for "real place"; Observing a process in action without interfering.
Gemba Walk
Five steps to transform a wasteful environment into a Lean environment.
Problem-solving methodology that balances the reduction of waste and variation.
Lean Six Sigma
Instead of DMAIC, this project type is used when a process can no longer be repaired.
DMADV
Sequence of drawings used to communicate the flow of a process.
Storyboard
A Customers’ feedback about their expectations of and experiences with a products/services.
VOC
This type of corrective action temporarily solves a problem.
STCA
Problem-solving methodology that focuses on the management of bottlenecks.
Theory of Constraints
Japanese term for "good change"; A flexible project type used to accelerate process improvement.
Kaizan
This chart visualizes volume by category, sorts the categories from greatest volume to least, then displays a line chart so the 80/20 principle can be used.
Pareto Chart
Comparing best practices between companies.
Benchmarking
Japanese term for "best Practice Sharing". The transfer of knowledge and best practices from one area to another
Yokoten
The ongoing improvement of products/services or processes; way of operating/living.
Continuous Improvement
What are the 5 steps to a DMAIC
DEFINE, MEASURE, ANALYZE, IMPROVE, CONTROL
Displays variation in a dataset using individual data points. Frequently used data points appear side-by-side/ wider than others.
Individual Value Plot
When a subset of data is used to determine characteristics of a whole population.
Sampling
Method of prioritizing that use 3 scores: Gravity, Urgency, and Tendency. Higher scores receive higher priority.
