What is YLS?

YLS stands for Youth Leadership Series. It is a series of 6 mini conferences where LTs and high school students throughout Milwaukee can attend professional and personal workshops.

What is the primary focus of LT1s?

During their LT1 year (Freshman), LTs focus on inner exploration. 

SEL Focus area: Self Management and Self Awareness

What is the minimum participation requirements?

4 YLS, 3 Community Service, 2 Retreats, 1 Leadership Lab, 1 Resident Camp Session.

What is an LT 3 (Junior) role at Resident Camp?

LT3s have a summer of shadowing program areas and cabins at RC. This prepares them for their transition from LT to employee their senior year.

Based off of the feedback from LT’s there are 4 common things that set our Leadership Program apart from the rest. What are they?

-Do a thing- CAP

-Self Discovery- True Colors and YLS

-Camaraderie- Build lifelong friendships

-Pay- Summer stipends, other internship opportunities

What is SUSO?

SUSO- Step Up, Stand Out is the the first interaction with perspective LTs. Those who are interested in becoming an LT must attend SUSO in the spring to get a better understanding of the role, responsibility and commitment of an LT entails.

What is the focus area for LT2s?

LT2 year focuses on Community and Team.

SEL Focus: Social awareness and relationship skills.

What is a LT2 main role at resident camp?

LT2 (Sophomores) take more leadership role with their peers as they are assigned to lead one of the many projects out at resident camp. (Legacy Mark, Sunday Devotionals, Community Service)

What are Leadership Labs?

Leadership Labs are for LT 1s and 2s to build their skills in project management and collaboration. They work together in creating a community action day for MLK day and Global Youth Service Day.

What is the focus area for LT3s?

LT3s (Juniors) focus on teaching others.

SEL: Social Awareness and Responsible Decision Making.

How do they stay in good standing?

LTs who have meet the minimum requirements and demonstrate good behavior and leadership skills are considered good standing.

What is the LT Stipend? 

Every year an LT receives an end of program year stipend. 

This varies based of their year and status in the program.

What are the retreats?

There are 2 retreats. 

Fall Retreat focuses on exploring Milwaukee as a larger community where small teams venture off into assigned neighborhoods to see what their city has to offer.

Spring Retreat focuses on preparing them for their internships at resident camp.

What is the focus for Seniors?

Moving forward Senior LTs will be considered Alumni. We will support them their Senior year on their transition into adulthood.

What is a YLS Ambassador?

YLS Ambassadors help welcome students to YLS, host the closing circle, and holds their peers accountable during the space.

Is the Senior Scholarship only for post secondary education?

No. LT scholarships can be used for anything that is contributing to their success post graduation. (tuition, rent, transportation, business startup)

What is the new AMC Pilot?

AMC (Allied Media Conference) is an opportunity for LTs who want to expand their skills in program development to create a workshop that will be facilitated externally.

What internships are available during the School Year?

LTs have the opportunity to become Program Assistants and Peer Engagement Specialists.
