What Being a CA Means To Me
Based off of my experiences as a CA, the most rewarding thing to me is being able to watch my community members grow and branch out from when I first met them. I enjoy being a resource to them and helping them when they need it.
Reflecting On This Year
Throughout this year I can say that I have improved in some areas and could improve in other areas. My time management has gotten better as I have been on time or early with bulletin boards and door decorations. I feel as though my creativity could improve as I still struggle to come up with event and bulletin board ideas.
We create a welcoming and vibrant campus living experience where students connect, explore, and belong.
What is the Campus Living mission statement?
Student Needs
Each community has different students who each have different needs. I am hoping that changing my community will allow me to see a different set of students and needs. I have typically only dealt with first year students who have different needs than upperclassmen.
Hobbies
Some of my hobbies include:
Hanging out with friends
Playing video games
Finding places to eat
Goal Setting #1
For next year I am hoping to be in an apartment-style community. My first 2 years as a CA have been spent at McConnell hall, a traditional-style community. At an apartment-style I will be able to engage with upper classmen and improve my CA skillset.
Excel:
Community and Connectedness
Both years as a CA, my community members socialize not only with myself, but with each other. I give them opportunities to interact through events and through open doors. Lastly, I make sure that if there is someone or something creating an unwelcoming space, that I see that it is removed.
Events
Every community has members that prefer different things. Getting to learn more about what your community likes helps you cater events towards them. This will be something that I implement in my community next year.
Where am I From?
Born in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Lived in Gilbert, AZ.
Goal setting #2
I have heard that in apartment-style communities it can be difficult to get outreaches done so my goal for next year is to be proactive and proficient with my outreaches.
Improve:
Learning and Development
When it comes to events, I want to make sure to bring in campus resources from outside of the community.
Outreaches
My preferred community is apartment-style. I have heard from others that outreaches in this style of community can prove difficult. I hope to implement methods (listed in my written response) to complete all of my outreaches.
My Major
I am currently majoring in Accounting, go math!
Growth Mindset
Even as a third year, there are still things to learn and improve on. I am hoping an apartment-style community will allow me to learn and try new strategies to engage with community members.
What the Mission Statement Means to Me
When it comes to my community members, I always want to create a welcoming experience for them. If there is a first generation college student who is either scared or nervous for college, I want to make that easier for them.
Bulletin Board
I want to make bulletin boards that coincide with what is happening within the community. I would like to express my creativity by making my bulletin boards and door decorations correspond.
