When should I respond to messages?
Each Handcart can carry enough of these which will be provided by the Stake for each participant in a family to hold personal items such as water, chapstick, sunscreen, clothing, etc.

Everyone has at least one of these in their family.
What is someone who is inactive?
Most of the handcart pioneers were this which meant that their bodies weren't used to the physical rigors of walking, sleeping on hard surfaces, their feet were soft from always wearing shoes, and they were not accustomed to the rigors of prairie life.
What are factory workers?
The youth should do this, more than the Ma and Pa.
What is push and pull the handcart?
You will need one for each family that can sleep 10-12 people.
What is a tent?
This helps create a unique environment that allows participants to:
1. focus on the meaning of trek.
2. remove external barriers
3. creates an equalizing environment where trekkers can develop and grow together from the same common base.

This man was opposed to traveling so late in the season and expressed his concerns to his leaders, but once the deciison was made to move ofrward, he was 100% obedient without complaining or saying, "I told you so."

You should do this with everyone so everyone can do both.

The youth, with the help of Mas and Pas, will do this each evening and each morning.
Who will setup and pack up tents and gear?
These should be solid and not mesh or they will need to be covered with duct tape to block dirt/sand from causing irritation that may cause blisters.
What are shoes?
Kleenex, hand sanitizer, toilet paper, bug repellent, Vicks vapor rub, safety pins, extra flashlight with batteries, consecrated oil, marking pen, sunscreen, a watch, extra batteries, duct tape, emergency feminine supplies, bucket wrench, several garbage bags to tie on handcart for trash, extra bungee cords, 2-3 squirt bottles, and a small cooler.
What are the extra things I should have on my handcart?
Many of these come to us about questions or information about their ward youth.
Who are ward leaders and parents?
Mas and Pas will provide a small one of these on their carts for lunches and snacks.

We will do this if your family exceeds 8 youth.
What is add another handcart pulled by trail walkers or have support staff bring additional gear to stopping points?
This couple had enough money to buy a team and wagon and fully supply, and still have enough money to buy a farm when they got to Utah, but they opted to go by handcart so they could help the other saints.

What is Ma's and Pa's responsibility?

Buckets, 2 insulated 5-gallon wide mouth water jugs, tarp, tent poles, tent stakes, bungee cords, first-aid kit.
What items will the Stake provide for the handcarts?
Because Trek is a machine with a million moving parts that we keep running as we process information from you, ward leaders, youth committee, committee members, and our Stake Presidency.

The place to store treats, emergency supplies, etc.

With the help of your Trek family, decide on one of these to help unify your family and which your family will be distinguished by during Trek.

Most of the handcarts were made out of this which meant that it would dry and shrink along the way causing many problems with the handcarts.

Doing this helps youth discover their own strengths and the strengths of others. As they do this, they will learn to work together to accomplish a goal they could not do alone.
