What is the policy and procedures for Child attendance?

• Goal of 90%
• Drop off is 7:45-9:00, & pick up is 4:45.
• Notify teacher/front desk if child will be absent and/or arriving late due to an appt.
• If a child is unexpectedly gone for 1-4 consecutive days, staff will attempt to contact the family and check on the child’s well-being
• After 5 consecutive days with not contact, parents will be notified by mail and given a contact due date and withdraw date.

• Fire drills completed monthly
• Infants placed in evac crib & Toddlers use bug/shape rope
• Bring first aid bag, attendance chart, & Emergency contacts.
• Follow exit route to Bus/Designated Safe meeting place. 
• Tornado Drill - Completed monthly April – Sept
• Go to designated areas in building (Along wall between in hallway & area between Licensor office & breastfeeding room). 
• Sit in safety position low to the ground – Sit/kneel facing wall, tuck into a ball tuck with hands over head & neck
• Staff with infants – place infant close to ground and cover with your body.    
• Lockdown Drill
• Bring everyone in from outside & remain indoors
• Stay in primary classrooms/offices
• No one will leave or enter the building (NO EXEPTIONS)
• Close/Lock doors and windows, close window shades, & turn off lights
• Turn off audio equipment and put cell phones on silent or vibrate
• Ignore fire alarms
• Center Manager will communicate via cellphones/radio, handle meal carts & assist with bathroom breaks.
• Program Manager announces end of lockdown

What is the medication policy?

• All medication will be stored in a locked box/cabinet & labeled with child’s name
• Written parent permission must be obtained prior to giving medication - USE MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION FORM
• Items such as lotion/ointment/sunscreen used only for 1 child must be labeled with child’s name and not shared with others
• Sunscreen, diapering products, insect repellent supplied by program may be shared with proper precaution – product can’t touch someone else’s skin/dirty gloves

What is the illness policy?

• Children/staff stay home when ill
• Daily health checks – observe child for signs of obvious illness
• Notify parents and Center Manager of signs symptoms
• Determine if the child can participate in activities with reasonable comfort. And/or Does the illness compromise health/safety of others?
• If a child becomes ill; Remove ill child from direct contact with others & Keep comfortable, Observe symptoms and document, Contact parent/guardian to pick up child
• A Child may return 24-48-hours symptom free or on antibiotics if sent home for; Fever over 100F, Nausea vomiting, More than 3 abnormal bowel movements – Diarrhea, & Impetigo
• NOTES: Infants who are teething may have one or more of these symptoms
• Short term exclusions that require physician statement upon returning; Chicken Pox, Strep, Parasites, Conjunctivitis (pink eye), unknown rash, ring worm, scabies, influenza, significant respiratory distress, & unexplained lethargy

The program staff (NOT the family or medical provider) will make the final decision when a child may return

• Staff sitting with children at the table eating the same food & conversing
• staff should make a plate to showing how to scoop food
• children should then practice serving themselves with assistance from teacher
• Children should not be rushed to finish eating.

• Set Meal Times; Breakfast 9:00, Lunch 11:30/12:00, & Snack 2:30/3:30
• (Exception; Infants are fed on demand)

What is the difference between Cleaning, Sanitizing, and Disinfecting?

• Cleaning;
• Use soap and warm water to physically remove all dirt/contamination; The friction removes most germs and exposes any remaining germs to be sanitized/disinfected.
• Sanitizing;
• Sanitizer reduces germs on inanimate surfaces. You cant sanitize a dirty surface.
• Disinfecting;
• Disinfectant destroys or inactive germs on any inanimate surfaces such as,
• Diaper changing tables
• Handwashing Sinks
• Bathrooms
• Doors & cabinets

What are the measurements of cleaning products/solutions used for sanitizing & Disinfecting?

• For mouthed surfaces, toys, table tops, high chairs, & cribs/cots
• Use COLD WATER & Add bleach to water, Not water to bleach
• Use Test Strips 50-200 PPM
• Bleach strength 5.25 -6.25% / 8.25%
• 1 Pint: 1/8 – ¼ TSP / 1/8 TSP
• 1 Quart: ¼ TSP – ½ TSP / ¼ TSP
• 1 Gallon: 1 ½ - 2 TSP / 1 TSP
• Let air dry for 2 minutes
• Disinfectant;

A checklist of duties to be done to ensure classroom and outdoor environment is safe, healthy, and free of potential hazards to properly care for children.

What is the Nap & Rest Time Policy?

• Toddlers have their own cot, sheet, & blanket 
• Cots and cribs are to be 3 feet apart 
• Teachers shall be positioned to see all children & NOT FALL ASLEEP
• Classrooms should NOT be dark; sufficient amount of light to ensure each child can be seen
• Toddlers who wake up are not required to go back to sleep – offer a quiet activity
• Cots are sanitized daily/after each use
• Soiled cots MUST to be washed & disinfected.  
• Infants must be put to sleep on their backs
• Infant must have their own crib, sheet, & no soft bedding or blankets
• Infants may use swaddle blanket/sleep sack
• No infant shall sleep in car seat/swing/bouncer

What is the Head Lice Policy?

• Head checks performed when head lice is suspected 
• Nits can stay for remainder of day 
• Live lice go home & provided with Lice removal kit – DOCUMENT INCIDENT 
• Complete Head check upon returning 
• Dress up clothes, pillows, soft animals/toys will be washed; Rugs will be vacuumed 
• If more than 3 children in a classroom are reported to have lice in a 2-week period, a letter/notice will be sent to all families to inform them of exposure and to do regular head checks on their child
