The Basics
Just like actors, the tech crew also has to go to the theatre version of a "practice" session.
What is a technical rehearsal?
The people responsible for moving things: furniture, scenery, or props on stage.
Who the deck crew?
This makes the stage bright or dark. They can be different colors or even move.
What is lighting or the intelligent lights?
The person who tells the actors and technical crews and crew chiefs what to do.
Who is the director?
A stencil for lighting. Many different colors and shapes can be created with these.
What are gobos?
The section of the stage floor which projects towards or into the auditorium and is in front of the Act curtain.
What is the apron?
Proscenium, Thrust and Arena.
What are the three different types of stages?
These can make the actors look different so they can play different parts.
What are costumes or hair and makeup?
The people who create the look of the costumes, scenery, lighting and other items needed to put the show together.
Who are the designers?
A computerized or physical object that represents the stage and the set.
What is a scale model?
An author writes the poem or the novel. This person writes the play.

UR, UC, UL, CR, CS, CL, DR, DC, DL
What are Stage Directions or Acting Areas?
This makes the stage look like the story occurs in another place.
What is scenery?
This person must be extremely organized. She is the mediator between the director and the rest of the cast and crew.
Who is the stage manager?
The day the actors can no longer have their scripts with them on stage.
What is drop book?
The term for how to behave backstage. An audience has their own version of this.
What is backstage etiquette?
When it is time to clean up the stage and all other areas for the last time after a show's final run.
What is strike or striking the set?
These are not sung or spoken but hopefully the audience can hear these.
What are sound effects?
The brand of sound board we are now using in the tech booth.
Who or what is Yamaha?
The company that makes MAD Drama's light board.
Who is ETC?
Precise moments that are given to actors and technical crew when something needs to happen.
What are cues or prompts?
Actors and singers stand next to the band so that each can hear each other clearly in this special type of musical rehearsal.
What is a sitzprobe?
Items that the actors hold or use in the show. Can be big or small.
What are props?
These people are the workers of the show. They follow the orders of the Crew Chiefs and typically have less input into the design process.
Who are the crew members?
Table, straight, jig, skill, and chop are examples of these.
