Later on, when Sts. Paul and Silas were on their way to prayer, a certain slave girl possessed with an evil spirit followed them, but St. Paul rebuked the demon. But when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to the authorities where they were beaten severely with rods. When they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them in prison under high security. ?? But Sts. Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God. Suddenly at midnight there was an earthquake that shook the foundations of the prison and immediately all the doors were opened and the chains were loose.

The following items were found in the tabernacle of Meeting, what does each symbolize?

The veil

The Bronze Laver

The Golden Lampstand

The Table of Showbread

Ark of the Covenant

Altar of burnt offering

The Holy of Holies

The veil: It separates the Holy of Holies from the rest of the tabernacle. The high priest would enter through it once a year in order to sprinkle the blood of the sacrifice in the Holy of Holies. This is a symbol of our Lord Jesus Christ the true High priest who entered through the veil with the sacrifice of His own blood.

The bronze laver: This was located outside between the Tabernacle of Meeting and the Altar of Burnt Offering. It was used by Aaron and his sons for the washing of their hands and feet before serving in the tabernacle. This was a symbol of the grace of Baptism through which we are born again with a sanctified body in order to become the temple of God and have God dwell within us.

The Golden Lampstand: located on the south side of the Holy Place and was the only source of light in the Holy Place. Its seven branches were a symbol of the church being enlightened by the work of the Holy Spirit through the seven Sacraments.

Table of showbread: This symbolizes the love of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Bread of Life, towards His church when He offered up His Holy Body and Precious Blood as the source of life for us all.

Ark of Covenant: The Ark represented the unity and covenant between God and man. It was located in the Most Holy Place and contained the golden Pot of Manna, the Rod of Aaron, and the two Tablets of the Law.

Altar of burnt offering: Situated in the courtyard of the Tabernacle, this altar symbolizes the cross of Christ upon which the body of our Lord Jesus Christ was glorified.

The Holy of Holies: Also referred to as the Most Holy Place, this section of the Tabernacle housed the Ark of the Covenant and was separated from the Holy Place by the Veil. The Holy of Holies symbolizes heaven while the Ark of the covenant contained therein symbolizes the throne of God. This reminds us of the altar of the New Testament church upon which the Ark (containing the Chalice), the Chalice (containing the Holy Blood), and the Paten (containing the Holy Body) are placed.
