Who/What
Bryan was riding home in the car with his mom after school. He could barely keep his eyes open. His mom was talking to him about his day and asking him questions, but he hardly heard anything he said. Before he knew it, he opened his eyes and they were pulling up to his house.
What is sleepy/tired?
This is a bearlike animal that has thick white fur with black markings on its ears, limbs, shoulders, and around its eyes. It feeds on bamboo forests at high altitudes in western China. It also eats bulbs, roots, eggs, and some small mammals. The cubs are born in late winter. They are an endangered species and is protected by the Chinese government.
What is a panda?
As the friends waited in line, they could hear screams coming from up ahead. When it was finally their turn, they got in and buckled up. They slowly climbed higher and higher, and began to feel a bit nervous. Once they reached the top, they threw their hands in the air and shouted as they felt the wind in their hair!
What is a roller coaster?
Last Saturday night, my cousin slept over my house. We roasted marshmallows at the bright fire and chased fireflies. We caught 10 fireflies and watched them glow in a jar. Afterwards, we set them free.
What is nighttime and/or summer?
Isaac's grandmother could not believe her ears! When Miss Johnson told her how great Isaac's day had been, she wanted to cry. She could only hope tomorrow would be just as great.
What is surprised/excited/proud?
In the jungle, there lived a furry creature with big gentle eyes and long curved claws for holding onto branches. Whenever it moved, it seemed like time slowed down just for it. Despite its slow pace, it always found enough food to keep its belly full and happy.
What is a sloth?
Marco bobs at the surface, feeling the cool water on his skin. Suddenly, he notices a dark shape moving near him. It has a long body and sharp fins slicing through the waves. Marco's heart races as he realizes what it is, but he stays calm and swims back to shore. Later, he excitedly tells his friends what he saw.
What is a shark?
Cooper was not sure what to expect. He had never been to this school before. He hoped he could find someone to play with at recess and to sit with at lunch. He thought he might get lost, so he kept his map with him and took a deep breath before walking down the hallway.
What is nervous/anxious/worried/scared?
Zuri’s mom was searching under cushions, in bags, and even in the cabinets. As she looked and looked, she became more frantic. Zuri asked her why she was so stressed. Her mom said, “Zuri, if we can’t find them, I can’t take you to your sleepover.” Zuri jumped up immediately and started looking too.
What are keys?
It was Sherri's favorite treat. There was something about it - so light and fluffy! So salty and buttery! She loved to eat it anywhere - at home, at school, and especially when she went to the movies.
What is popcorn?
Jaclyn was so excited about playing Fern in Charlotte's Web! However, when she woke up, she felt weak and her nose was runny. Her forehead felt warm and she was really tired. "Uh Oh!" she thought.
What is sick?
Chad looked up quickly and wondered if it could really be. Living in the city, he’d never seen one before. Out here in the country the sky was so big and so dark that the flash of light stood out, even though it moved quickly.
What is a shooting star?
It was Sam’s birthday and he was opening his last gift. As he tore it open, his eyes widened at what he found inside. It was something he’d always wanted to learn to play. Smiling, he plucked the strings, feeling them hum under his fingertips. He knew he would spend many hours making music with his new treasure.
What is a guitar?
Before the show I practice my lines. I like to look into the mirror and pretend. I fix my hair and makeup and get into my costume. Before the curtain rises, I am nervous but eager to begin performing.
What is an actor?
Jennifer rolled her eyes as Chance let out that funny sneeze he always did. Then, when he started dancing, she felt like she was going to be sick. To make things even worse, he was sitting next to her making those funny noises. "Ugh, she thought to herself, "I have to get away from him!" Chance, however, thought it was hilarious! (How was Jennifer feeling?)
What is annoyed/irritated?
Summer looked at the pieces laid out on the ground and felt like this might take forever. Her dad told her not to worry; he had built one many times before. After they started, she was surprised at how quickly it came together! As she slept inside it that night, hearing the sound of crickets chirping, she felt proud of what they had done.
What is a tent?
One rainy afternoon, Kellan sat in front of a glowing screen. With each move, his excitement grew, but so did the challenge. Suddenly, he made a mistake and everything went wrong. He sighed in disappointment, knowing he had to try again next time.
