Do you have to have an appointment to have an exam on the mobile?
Yes. Our mobile is booked by appointments and we can work patients in as the schedule allows but not always guaranteed.

Do I have to have a mammogram every year?
Yes, we recommend that you do. The purpose of a screening mammogram is to detect cancer at its earliest stages. If you skip a year or two we will not find it as early as possible. Also, if you skip a year or two it can increase your chances of getting called back for additional views.
Can a man have a screening mammogram?
No. Men can have breast cancer but it is rare. If a man becomes symptomatic, he would need a diagnostic mammogram.

No, our mobile offers the same state- of- the- art digital equipment that you would find at our other sites, performed by registered mammography tech and exams are read by the same board certified breast radiologist.

1 in 8 women.
Most types of this contain an aluminum ingredient which can show up on the mammogram images and mimic micro- calcifications. For this reason we ask that it be removed prior to the exam.

Breathing causes chest wall motion and can cause a motion artifact on the mammo image.

Do you have to have a physician's order for a screening mammogram?
No, if you are 40- 79 yrs old you can be self- referred. Patients older than 80 need to discuss with physician. Patients under 40 need to discuss with physician if screening should start at earlier age.

What is the importance of compression for a mammogram?
Breast tissues can overlap and be difficult to see through without compression. Compression "smoothes" out the tissue so the radiologist can better visualize the breast anatomy.

Can mammography detect all breast cancers?
No, mammography is currently the best way to image the breast and detect breast cancer at its earliest stages. However it cannot detect all breast cancers. That is why it is important to have a breast exam by a physician at least once a year and perform self beast exams.
