It takes the Earth 365 days to rotate around the sun and come back to its original spot. That is why we have different seasons and how daytime and nighttime works. When the Earth is the furthest from the sun, winter happens. When it is close to the sun, summer happens. Sometimes winters can be long, but sometimes they can be short. Winter solstice happens twice a year when the Earth is tilted the furthest away from the sun. When this happens, it is the shortest amount of daylight, and the longest amount of nighttime. Daytime is only 7 hours and 50 minutes long during winter solstice, compared to 12 hours in the summer. Sometimes people have festivals for winter solstice.
