The Ocean
The ocean is divided into these levels based on depth.
What are oceanic pelagic zones?
Coral are in this kingdom classification.
What is animal kingdom?
Unlike its cousins on land, this marine reptile has flippers instead of claws and cannot pull inside its shell.
What is a sea turtle?
One way to tell seals and sea lions apart is by their ears. This one has visible ear flaps.
What is a sea lion?
This flightless bird has flippers and most live in the southern hemisphere.
What are penguins?
The brightest of the ocean zones.
What is the sunlight zone? (or epipelagic zone)
Jellyfish, coral, and sea anemones are classified in this phylum.
What is cnidarians?
This marine vertebrate has scales and fins, but no eyelids.
What is a fish?
Pinnipeds (like sea lions, seals, and walruses) have this to keep them warm.
What is blubber?
This is the largest whale.
What is the blue whale?
This is the common name for the mesopelagic zone, where sun dimly reaches.
What is the twilight zone?
Echinoderms, with their spiny skeleton, include sea cucumbers, sea urchins, sand dollars, and this - not a fish and not part of a constellation!
What is a star fish? (Or sea star)
This special kind of fish has an excellent sense of smell and hearing!
What is a shark?
Animals like the sea otter and polar bear in carnivora have this in addition to blubber to keep them warm.
Toothed whales use this to help them navigate by making sounds.
What is echolocation?
This zone is a great place to find seashells.
What is the intertidal zone?
This cephalopod does not have an internal shell, like its cousins, the squid and cuttlefish.
What is an octopus?
Instead of bones, sharks have this.
What is cartilage?
These mammals live in the water and look a bit like fish, but they are not fish.

A group of fish swimming together in a synchronized way.
What is schooling?
These mark the edges of the intertidal zone.
What are high tide and low tide?
When crustaceans outgrow their shells, they do this.
What is molt? (or shed and grow new)
When sharks lose these, they grow more!
What are teeth?
This kind of whale has 2 blowholes and no teeth as the toothed whales do.
What are baleen whales?
A coral reef that is separated from the shoreline with a channel of water
