What is surface area?
Adding up all the areas of each of the faces/bases of a 3D shape. Surface Area is measured in squared units.
What is volume?
The amount of space that a 3D object occupies. Volume is measured in cubed units.
What is capacity?
The maximum quantity a container/object can hold or carry. Capacity can be measured in L, gallons, etc.

SA = 848.2 cm2
Calculate the height of a cylinder with a volume of 150 ft3 and a radius of 1.5 ft.
V = πr2h
150 = π(1.5)2(h)
150/(π (1.5)2) = h
21.2 ft = h
A hot-tub has a capacity of 84.7 L. What is the volume of the hot-tub?
1 L = 1000 cm3
84.7 L = V

V = 84,700 cm3
Calculate the total surface area of a math ice cream cone that consists of a perfect hemisphere and a cone. The radius is 15 cm and the slant height of the cone is 10 cm.
SA (hemisphere) = 3πr2
SA (hemisphere) = 2πr2 = 2π(15)2 = 1413.7 cm2
SA (cone) = πr2 + πrs
SA (cone) = πrs = π(15)(10) = 471.2 cm2
SA (total) = 1413.7 + 471.2
SA (total) = 1884.9 cm2
How many 190,000 cm3 puppies can fit in a rectangular-based prism play-pen measuring 2.8 m by 1.7 m by 0.8 m?
V = lwh
V = (2.8)(1.7)(0.8)
V = 3.8 m3 or 3.81 m3
1 m = 100 cm
1 m3 = (100 cm)3
1 m3 = 1,000,000 cm3
1 m3 = 1,000,000 cm3
