-x + 2y = 3
x + 4y = 7
What variables do you want to eliminate?
x
How does the process of substitution work/
Plug one variable into the other equation.
sqrt(4)
2
100^0 = ?
1
Is mayonnaise an instrument?
No Patrick, mayonnaise is not an instrument.
-2x + 2y = 3
x + 4y = 3
What number should you multiply the bottom equation by?
2
When solving substitution and you get 2 = 0 or something like that, how many solutions are there?
None (parallel lines)
sqrt(144)
12
100^-1 = ?
1/100
315 / 3 =
105
Once you get one of the variables solved for, what do you do to get the second variable?
When solving a system of equations and you get 0 = 0 or 5 = 5 (something like that), how many solutions are there?
Infinitely many
sqrt(24)
splits into sqrt(4*6) you can take sqrt 4 which is 2 , so 2 sqrt(6)
10^1 divided by 10^1
1
What instrument does Mr Brewer play?
trombone!
Solve with elimination
2x - y = 2
-2x - y = 6
(1,4)
Solve with substitution
y - 5x = 1
y = 5x
No solutions (parallel slopes)
sqrt(2) * sqrt(4)
sqrt(8) which is 2sqrt(2)
10^3 * 10^7
10^10
Where did Mr Brewer go to college?
UH Manoa, KCC, or University of Portland
Why does the process of elimination work?
You're basically getting rid of one of the variables so that you can easily solve for one variable.
We did this in the error analysis yesterday, what's one thing you cannot do with substitution (it will get you infinitely many solutions).
Plug a solved for variable back into the equation you solved for (you should plug it back into the OTHER equation).
sqrt(x^5)
x^2 sqrt(x)
1 / a^2b^2c^2100
What does Kalapaki mean in English?
double yolk (because before the harbor was there it looked like a double yolk)
