Everything is made of what?

Matter

100

Name the three main States of Matter

Solid, Liquid and Gas

100

What is a good example of a solid?

An ice cube/ rock

100

What is one thing that can cause matter to change states?

temperature

ICE ICE

Matter is made of what?

Atoms

200

What State of matter keeps it's shape and size?

Solid

200

What is a good example of a liquid?

water

200

What do you call the point where water turns to ice

The freezing point

200

In which state of matter are the particles furthest apart?

Gas

300

The center of a Atom is called what?

Nucleus

300

What State of matter take the shape of the container it is put in?

Liquid

300

What is a good example of a gas?

oxygen, helium, neon, argon

300

What do you call the point where ice turns into water

The melting point

300

Why can a gas be compressed into a smaller container? Unlike a solid or liquid.

Because its particles are far apart and have space to move into

400

What are the 3 particles of an Atom?

Electron. Neutron, and Proton

400

What State of Matter can fill any space?

Gas

400

What is one thing that can cause matter to change states?

temperature

400

What do you call the point where water gets hot enough to turn into steam?

The boiling point

400

During the borax crystal lab, why was more borax able to dissolve when mixed with boiling water?

Boiling water forces water molecules to move around very rapidly. The fast moving molecules interact with the borax allowing more to be dissolved. When the water cooled overnight, the dissolved borax started to turn back into a solid.

Are icebergs made of saltwater or fresh water?

Fresh water. Ocean water contains too much salt. It will actually take salt water longer to freeze than fresh water due salt crystals. Icebergs are made of snow formed onshore that drift into the ocean.

500

Why can a liquid flow?

Liquid can flow because its particles move around, sliding over each other.

500

What is the 4th state of matter? (HINT: We are not covering it because it is newly found)

Plasma

500

If an ice cube is melting, is that absorbing energy or releasing energy?

absorbing

500

Water drops that collect on a cold glass of lemonade come from?

The air
