Matter
100
What type of matter doesn't change its shape, volume, or mass? (unless something acts on it)
A Solid
100
What is energy?
Energy is the ability to do work.
100
What is potential energy?
Potential energy is stored up energy.
100
What are atoms?
Atoms are the basic building blocks of life.
100
What is a physical change?
A physical changes is just changing what something LOOKS like.
200
What type of matter takes the shape of its container, but doesn't change its volume, or mass?
A liquid
200
What is renewable energy? (Give an example.)
Renewable energy is an energy source that can be replenished. Ex. water
200
What is Kinetic Energy?
Kinetic energy is energy be used or energy being put into motion.
200
What are molecules?
Molecules are a bunch of atoms put together to form something.
200
What is a chemical change?
A chemical change is changing what something actually IS.
300
What type of matter takes the shape of its container, changes it volume depending on where it is, but does not change its mass?
A gas
300
What is non-renewable energy? (Please give an example.)
Non-renewable energy is an energy source that we are using up and cannot re-create. Ex. oil
300
If Miss Jones stands on top of a desk and holds a basketball above Ms. Burkhart's head - is this an example of potential or kinetic energy?
Potential
300
What is proton and where is located in an atom?
A proton has a positive charge and it is in the nucleus.
300
What is matter?
Matter is everything and anything around you.
400
What is density? (Describe the experiment we did as an example.)
Density is how close together the molecules are in an object or how much mass an object has. (The experiment we did as an example was pouring different liquids on top of each other to watch them layer depending on the different weights or densities.)
400
Please name the four major types of energy. (Hint: big groups.)
Water, Wind, Solar, Electric.
400
If Ms. Burkhart pushes Miss Jones across the pod floor in her desk chair - is this an example of potential or kinetic?
Kinetic.
400
What is a neutron and where it is located in an atom?
A neutron has a neutral charge (or no charge) and it is in the nucleus.
400
What are the atoms/molecules like in a solid, liquid, and gas?
Solid - packed closely together Liquid - spread out enough to slide past each other Gas - spread very far apart and move quickly
500
Please name the three categories/traits we look for to describe types of matter.
Shape, volume, mass.
500
What is an energy chain? (Give an example.)
An energy chain is the cycle that energy goes through as it travels from one object, or form, to another. Ex. The Food Chain.
500
If Camo chases Sammy around the house until Sammy bites Camo's ear off and Camo runs away crying ... Camo would be an example of which type of energy - potential or kinetic? Why?
Kinetic because he is doing work by running at him and, also, away from him.
500
What is an electron and where is it located in an atom?
An electron has a negative charge and is located on the outside of the atom - going around the nucleus.
500
Draw an example of an atom (any atom) - it must have correct labels of the nucleus, protons, neutrons, and electrons.
Answers will vary but must have the nucleus in the center, with protons and neutrons inside it, and electrons out around it.
