What has matter?
Anything that has mass and takes up space.
What are the states of matter?
Solid, liquid, gas
How did I know the trail mix from our lab was a mixture?
You could still see the different parts of the mixture and you could separate them back to the original containers.
What is the definition of a solution?
Two or more elements that are chemically combined to make one completely blended substance.
What is the name of the small particles.
An atom
Gas has no fixed shape or fixed volume. The clouds are an example of a gas.
What is the definition of a mixture?
A mixture is two or more elements that are not chemically combined.
What is an example of a solvent?
Water
What vocabulary term is made up of two or more atoms that are bonded together? State an example as well.
A molecule and water!
How do the particles in a solid compare to the particles in a liquid?
Particles in a solid vibrate in place while the particles in a liquid slide past one another.
Yes and oil in water.
What is a solute? give an example.
The substance that is being dissolved in a solution. The Kool aid powder.
What properties make up matter?
Volume, mass, and shape
Describe the particles in a solid
Moving rapidly and are near each other.
Give two examples of a mixture? (you can't say the one from the lab)
Cereal and milk, oil and water, Fruit Salad
A solution is also called what?
A homogenous mixture
How did the molecules matter lab (water droplets on an index card) explain the definition of molecules?
When we picked up the index card, the water drop moved together and didn't leave behind left over water. Water is made up of hydrogen and oxygen which are two atoms that are attracted to each other.
If you are heating up ice, what would happen to the particles motion during the liquid stage?
The particles would be moving but they are still near each other.
A mixture is also called what?
A heterogenous mixture.
What is the difference between a diluted solution and a saturated solution?
