Why do we have a dress code?

We don’t have a dress code, we have a uniform code. Our uniform code helps us to identify as being an important part of MCS.  Upholding the uniform code allows us to protect and nurture the special culture of MCS.

Why do we read old books?

We read good and great books that have stood the test of time.  Good and great books educate students to grow in wisdom and virtue.

Why don’t we have a prom or homecoming?  Is there something wrong with homecoming or prom?

Homecoming:  A homecoming is done with alumni in mind.  Our focus is on our current students.  Our Fall Dance is a themed dance that enhances the special culture of MCS.

Prom:  We call our spring formal “The Gala” to highlight the “special-ness” of the event.   We serve dinner, have special dancing, etc.  to set this night apart and where they experience being children of the King, princes and princesses, who will someday enjoy the wedding supper of the Lamb.

I want my child to have an IEP. How do I get one of those?

Always refer your RTI questions to Jeanette Houston.

Reply to parents, “I will let our RTI team know your concern/question and they will reach out to you as soon as possible.”

Why did I get dress coded when my classmate did not?

Upholding the uniform code allows us to protect and nurture the special culture of MCS.  Because there are many more students than adults, we don’t always take note of everything.  We depend on the cooperation of our students and parents to co-labor with us by adhering to the uniform code voluntarily.

Why do we read hard books? Can't we just read books for fun? Why do we have to annotate?

We encourage everyone to read books for enjoyment. It’s the Madison Way to read books in class that help us educate students in wisdom and virtue.  Sometimes those are difficult, and annotations help us to understand as we read.

Why do we have such a strict dress code for dances? Why is the female dress code for dances so harsh?

All of our guidelines for non-uniform events follow the MCS handbook.  It’s the Madison Duty to protect and nurture the special culture of MCS.

Why can't I use my phone or smart watch at school?

The distractions of alerts, updates, and social media negatively affect learning, community, and mental health.

Why does the school care about my earrings? Piercings? Length of my skirt? Height of my boots?

All perceived “value” judgments can use this response: We aren’t making a value judgment.  It’s our responsibility to uphold our foundational documents and handbooks to protect and nurture the special culture of MCS.

Why don't you offer more honors classes and/or allow for more personalized education options?

We offer several honors classes and support the College Credit Plus program.  We can offer only the number of classes that a school our size can support in excellence.

300

Why can’t we have a dance here at school?

We do have special events that include dancing.  We don’t have these on campus because dancing is not approved on campus by MCC.

You guys are in the business of training kids on how to think, not what to think, right?

We are here to teach the students to love what is good, true, and beautiful according to God’s Word, and to hate those things that aren’t.
