Everything was packed in the truck and ready to go before sunrise. Riley had checked and double-checked that they had tents, sleeping bags, fishing poles, and plenty of food. Now all he needed was for his brothers to get outside. Riley bounced anxiously from one foot to the other in the driveway as he glanced into the sky. He had been looking forward to this trip for two months. Ever since Jacob and Marshall had left for college, Riley had missed spending time with his brothers. Now that they were home for the summer, he didn’t want to waste any time. He wondered if he should go inside and get Jacob and Marshall or just keep waiting. They sleep more than anyone I know, Riley thought. He decided he could not wait any longer, so he ran through the front door, past the kitchen, and headed for the stairs to wake them up when he stopped short. Jacob and Marshall were sitting at the kitchen table eating breakfast. They looked up as Riley rushed into the room. “Come on guys!” Riley shouted, irritation creeping into his voice. “I thought we were leaving at seven!” “We still have time. Don’t worry. We’ll be on our way before you can blink an eye,” Jacob replied. Riley sat down at the table next to his brothers, still bouncing his foot. Finally, the boys finished eating, and they all headed for the truck. Riley sat in the front passenger seat, and Marshall handed Riley the map. “Okay, you’re going to be our guide. Make sure we can find our way there.” He ruffled Riley’s hair and started the truck. Riley had never been in charge of the map before, and he took a deep breath as he unfolded it. Riley traced the route they would take with his finger, and then he retraced it to be sure he would remember. He knew his brothers were counting on him. Riley grinned from ear to ear.
