A pain or dull ache in the head. This side effect is mild and usually resolves within the first week.
What is headache?
You feel tired and sleepy. Sometimes it's hard to stay awake or concentrate during the day.
What is sedation or drowsiness?
An uncomfortable, queasy feeling in your tummy that makes you feel like you're going to vomit.
What is nausea, stomach cramps?
Increased cholesterol and blood sugar.
You don't feel hungry. Food isn't as appealing as it used to be.
What is loss of appetite?
When you feel shaky, jittery or even a little anxious. This can happen when you first start taking an antidepressant.
What is restlessness (activation)?
When you look at objects and they appear out of focus.
What is blurry vision?
You feel like you want to drink lots of water, and you want to pee a lot.
What is increased thirst and increased urination?
Straining to have a bowel movement. Hard or lumpy stools. Having fewer than 3 stools a week.
What is constipation?
When your heart beat feels faster than usual (and you haven't been exercising).
What is increased heart rate (tachycardia)?
This side effect is all run and no fun! When you have loose or watery bowel movements, multiple times in a day.
What is diarrhea?
Feeling light-headed or faint, or like the room is spinning.
What is dizziness?
You might see more loose hairs around or on your clothes, or shower drain. More common with valproic acid/divalproex and lithium.
What is temporary hair loss, thinning hair?
Not having enough saliva in your mouth to keep it wet. Mouth feels like cotton balls.
What is dry mouth?
You feel hot or sweaty and maybe feel an irregular heartbeat.
What is elevated blood pressure and body temperature?
When you feel hot all of a sudden and it can make your neck, scalp, face or chest feel sweaty. Your skin may also turn red.
What is flushing/sweating?
The inability to think as quickly or clearly as you normally do.
What is confusion, or loss of concentration?
When your hands feel trembly or shaky.
What are mild tremors?
Increase in body weight, fat or water retention.
What is weight gain?
Trouble falling asleep or waking up throughout the night.
What is insomnia or interrupted sleep patterns?
Feeling uneasy, flu-like symptoms, lightheaded or tingling "electric shock" sensations.
What is discontinuation syndrome?
Not being able to stay stable when walking. Feeling unsteady.
What are problems with balance or coordination?
If you have these: vomiting, diarrhea, extreme thirst, muscle twitching, slurred speech, confusion.
What are signs of lithium toxicity! Seek treatment right away.
Muscle stiffness, involuntary facial movements or restlessness.
What are antipsychotic-induced movement disorders?
Feeling kind of anxious which may lead to annoyance or feeling on edge.
What is irritability or panicky feeling?
