Is a part of the School Counselor's job to play and hang out with you?
No. The School Counselor's job is to help students who need help building social emotional learning skills. Although we can learn through games, Ms. C's job is to meet with students in small groups, in classrooms and individually.

Can you walk to the counselor's office whenever you want?
No! Ms. C must call you to come into her office to talk, or you can set up an appointment. Sometimes emergencies happen, and then you can immediately come to see me, but only if your teacher knows.

Nope! It's confidential information.
As soon as you leave a note or request to see Ms. C, the counselor will come and get you immediately.

Can you come visit the counselor during recess?
No. Only on Fridays can you come by and hang out. Monday-Thursday you can stop by to say hi, or to pick up a "Student Self Referral to See the School Counselor".

Everyday!!!

Death of someone you love, arguments with friends, feeling sad or lonely, being bullied, feeling frustrated or just needing someone to listen to your thoughts and feelings.

No. The things we discuss in counseling are private. We need to be respectful of our friends. If someone wants to share with you, they can, but they do not have to. Ms. C will never tell you why someone was in her office.

If you are dealing with a bully, should you tell an adult or keep it a secret?
Tell an adult first. If the problem continues, then please see Ms. C to help you solve the issue.
How can you demonstrate responsibility in class?
What is pay attention in class, do you classwork, ask questions when you don't understand, turn in your homework, etc.,?
The only time that you should have any contact with the school counselor is when you have a big problem!
False. Ms. C might call you in for other things, like friendship circles, college & career, problem solving or just to check in.
If you feel a friend is going through a difficult time (like a love one died, they are moving, someone is bullying them, or they are hurting themselves) should you help them go see the school counselor?
Yes! Friends help other friends. Do not keep things like this a secret. It's my job and the teachers job to try our best to keep you safe and make sure you are happy.
If you need to see the school counselor, what do you do?
Pick up a "Student Request to See the Counselor Form" on the Front Door of Room 6. Then place the completed form, in the clear folder that says "Done".
If a friend tells you a secret that he/she is being hurt by someone, should you keep that secret?
No. Tell an adult or the school counselor as soon as you can.
Does Ms. C, your school counselor, hold you to high expectations academically and does she expect you to learn and do your best everyday?
Yes.
You can tell your school counselor anything, and she will keep it confidential!
False. Most of the things we do talk about are confidential, which means I won't tell anyone else at all. However, Ms. C may have to report it if you tell her that someone is hurting you, you are hurting yourself, or you are hurting someone else. My job is to keep you safe and happy, so I can't let anyone harm you.
Is it the School Counselor's job to solve the problem you are going through?
No. The School Counselor can help you gather ideas, solutions, or answers to your problem. At the end of the day, you are the one making the best choice for yourself. The School Counselor will help guide you and support you.
