Mental Health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how you feel, think, and act in everyday life.

A mental health condition is when how you feel, think, or act, causes a change in your ability to function and this impacts your wellbeing.

What is a crisis? 

A crisis can happen to anyone. A crisis is described as a sudden, usually unexpected, difficult situation or circumstance. Crisis have an endpoint.

Sadness, hopelessness, feeling tired & without energy a lot, feeling irritable a lot, having trouble concentrating, eating too little or overeating, having negative thoughts like being hard or critical towards yourself, having body aches & pains, losing interest in activities you usually enjoy, feeling that nothing is important, thoughts about not wanting to live anymore, sleeping too much or too little, etc.

Stress can be both positive or negative. What is the different between the two?

Positive Stress: sometimes things you enjoy or look forward to can be a source of pressure or stress, such as learning new things, making new friends, starting a new school, going on a first date, playing in sports competitions, etc.

Negative Stress: sometimes things you find unpleasant or threatening, such as school exams, problems at school or with friends, moving to a new place, concern about your looks and the clothes you wear, being excluded or bullied, etc.

What is the difference between being sad and being depressed?

Sadness is usually a temporary emotion that can typically go away when something pleasant happens. Depression lasts for 2 or more weeks, and may not go away even if something pleasant occurs. (see pg. 54 in booklet).

What is severe depression?

When you have multiple symptoms of depression including thinking about death or suicide often or having an intent to harm. Thoughts of suicide are often linked to depression or can be linked to a difficult crisis.
