What is Psychosis?
Severe mental condition where there is disorganization of personality, deteoriation in social functioning, loss of contact with, or distortion of reality. Can occur with or without organic impairment

experienced for at least 1 month
How long does Brief psychotic disorder last?
Lasts less than 1 month then they return to the premorbid phase
What are the 4 phases of substance abuse disorder?
-Phase 1: prealcoholic (use alcohol to relieve stress, gain tolerance)
-Phase 2: Early alcoholic (Hiding alcohol, drinking in secret, feels guilt, denial and rationalization)
-Phase 3: Crucial (Everything is falling apart, and you lost everything, binge drinking, anger and aggression, sickness, loss if consciousness)

-Deterioration in role functioning/social withdrawal (signs of significant deterioration in functioning and cognitive impairment)
-sleep disturbance, anxiety, irritability, depresses mood, poor concentration, fatigue
-Adolescents can develop OCD in this phase

-How often do you drink? (This will help determine when the withdrawal will start) (4-12 for alcohol)(12-24 for drugs)
