The molecule we get from breathing.
What is oxygen?
What is the respiratory system?
This is the part of the cell where cellular respiration happens.
What is mitochondria?
Ms. Goodell used to work in this city, before she moved to Seattle.
New York City
What is starch?
ALSO ACCEPTABLE
What is glucose?
True or False:
Oxygen is broken down in the digestive system, and then goes to the respiratory system.
These two molecules are needed for cellular respiration to happen.
What are oxygen and glucose?
Ms. Goodell plays this sport on Monday and Wednesday nights.
What is soccer?
This is the molecule that protein breaks down into.
What are amino acids?
This system carries blood through your body, transporting molecules to the cells.
What is the circulatory system?
These three things are produced in cellular respiration.
Energy, carbon dioxide, and water
This is Ms. Marikis' first name.
What is Sonja?
What are cells?
This system is effected if someone has an injury to the pancreas.
What is the digestive system?
Amino acids use this to create proteins that help the cell grow and repair itself.
What is energy produced through cellular respiration?
This is Ms. Goodell's age.
What is 31 years old?
Kobe usually plays basketball at sea level. But on Saturday he has a game on the top of the mountain. How will playing the game at this altitude impact his ability to release energy?
There is less oxygen at high altitudes, so less oxygen would be able to get to your cells. His body will not be able to release as much energy because less oxygen will be in his cells, conducting cellular respiration.
Explain how a problem with the digestive system can effect a person's ability to produce energy for exercise.
If the digestive system can't break down starch into glucose, then the person will not have enough glucose to conduct cellular respiration in their cells. Cellular respiration is what produces energy.
Dr. Walker tested a patient and found they had normal levels of oxygen and glucose, but abnormal starch levels. Will this patient be able to exercise normally?
Yes. The cells need only glucose and oxygen to function normally to produce energy.
What university is Ms. Marikis studying at?
Eastern Washington University
