Draw the symbols for each type of front on the white board.

Warm front= semicircles and red

Cold front= triangles and blue

Occluded front= semicricles and triangles in purple

Stationary front= semicircles and triangles in red and blue

100

Define atmosphere

The layer of gases that surround the earth.

100

A front is a barrier that is made between 2 different air masses and it is usually in the range of hundereds of kilometers long. T/F

True.

100

Come up with one question and answer you think is important to know for the test (it must not be one you've heard already)

Options

100

What does scio/scitum mean?

To know.

200

A warm air front is when cold air overtakes warm air and pushes it up and a cold front is when warm air pushes cold air. T/F

False

200

What is needed for a cloud to form?

Water vapor and particulates.

200

Define meteorology.

The study of the atmosphere and weather.

200

Describe our atmosphere

Causes pressure, has 4 layers, made of multiple gases (78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen), has particulates, etc.

200

What do "geo" and "astron" mean?

Earth and star

300

Define stationary and occluded front.

A stationary front is when a cold air mass and a warm air mass are near each other, but neither moves.

An occluded front is when cold air masses overtake a warm air mass of the ground and over another mass.

300

What are the 4 layers of the earth from the closest to the earth to the farthest from the earth?

Troposphere-->stratosphere-->mesosphere-->thermosphere

300

What is  "a pattern of meteorological symbols that represents the weather at a particular observing station that is recorded on a weather map" (588).

Station Model.

300

If air can hold 10 g/mL of water, and it currently holds 8.5 g/mL, what is the relative humidity?

85%

300

250 mm = ___________m

0.25 m

400

Draw a cold, warm, and occluded front

options.

400

Describe a stratus, cumulus, and cirrus cloud.

Status= low in the sky, layered, and gray

Cumulus= piled/fluffy

Cirrus= highest in the sky and feathery.

400

Describe either the nitrogen or carbon cycle.

Nitrogen= nitrogen in the air and bacteria convert it to a form plants can use. An animal eats the plants and then when they decay the nitrogen does back into the air.

Carbon= CO2 in the air gets taken in by plants to do photosynthesis, then they release O2 which animals take in to do cellular respiration. They then release CO2. CO2 is also released via fuel and as animals decay.

400

Double Jeopardy

How does air pressure affect weather?

400

16 km= ___________m

16,000m

500

Describe what type of weather happens at each front?

Cold front= thunderstorms

Warm front= clouds and drizzle

Occluded front= rain

Stationary front= same as warm front

500

Describe each of the layers of the earth's atmosphere

Troposphere= 1st layer, where weather occurs, as go up it gets colder and less pressure

Stratosphere= 2nd layer, ozone layer, as go up it gets warmer

Mesosphere= third layer, can see meteors and auroras in this layer, contains the ionosphere

Thermosphere= last layer, can see auroras in this layer, contains the ionsophere, gets hotter as you go up

500

Describe one of the following: Thunderstorm, tornadoes, or hurricanes.

Thunderstorm- cumulus, mature, and dissipating stages

Tornadoes - thunderstorm hitting horizontal winds

Hurricanes- strongest sorm, low-pressure in the center, can go 120 km/hr and cover 400-800 km

500

Final Jeopardy

Interpret the map on the board.
