Group B strep is a Gram Positive Cocci that is bacitracin resistant, hippurate positive, and beta hemolytic forming a green clearing around colonies on blood agar. Its scientific name is Streptococcus agalactiae.
beta hemolysis is characterized by clearing with no green.

Neisseria species are capnophilic, oxidase positive, obligate respirers. They are fastidious and can be found in the mucous membranes of the body. The various species can be easily distinguished via sugar ferment tubes and whether they are able to grow on chocolate, blood, or nutrient agar. They can be selected for by growing them on VCN agar.
We use CTA slants not ferment tubes to distinguish neisseria spp.
