What's a stereotype?
A specific and untrue belief/idea that targets a certain group of people.
A man is driving down the highway with a confederate flag on the back of his pickup truck, he is screaming at POC as he drives by.
Racism
Jane provides an outstanding idea to improve the company at a board meeting with executives, John explains the same idea and the boss gives credit for the idea.
Microinvalidation
A man gets paid more than a woman in the workplace even though she works twice as hard as him

Deliberate and intentional actions or insults that are meant to hurt the intended victim.
"How are you so dark? You aren't supposed to look like that."
Colorism
A white woman moving away and clutching her purse when a Black man joins her in an elevator.

A Southern man expresses his hate for Black people on the internet

What's a microinsult?
Comments that unintentionally disrespect a person’s traits; identity
Female Teacher: Carrying boxes
Male teacher: Minding his business
Female teacher: "Come here and help me with these boxes, aren't you supposed to be strong?"
Sexism
"You don't belong here! Go back to your country!"
Microassault
A woman doubting her ability in a leadership role and wants a man to do it for her

What's a microinvalidation?
When someone attempts to discredit, invalidate, or undermines the experiences of a person or a group who is from an underrepresented group.
"Why are you not straight...? I don't think we can be friends anymore."
Heterosexism
A suspicious store owner follows a young Black man around the store to make sure he doesn't "take anything".
Microassault
On Halloween school assembly, a group of white boys dress up as 80's hip-hop rappers, their hair is in cornrows, and they are wearing fake gold chains and baggy clothing.
