Risk of congenital infection is highest during the first trimester. Maternal symptoms include a maculopapular rash, postauricular and suboccipital lymphadenopathy and arthritis. May be asymptomatic at birth, then develop symptoms during the first year of life. Features of disease include cardiac defects, cataracts, growth restriction, HSM, thrombocytopenia, and deafness.
