DO'S

♦ L.I.N.K.S. are to be prepared for weekly meetings and Performance Standards.

♦ L.I.N.K.S. are expected to wear business casual attire during the day of their L.I.N.K.S. meeting.

DON'TS

Describe two of the nine alcohol and drug policies in the Risk Reduction Program?

1. The possession, sale, use, or consumption of ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES, while on chapter premises, during a sorority event, in any situation sponsored or endorsed by the entity, or in any event an observer would associate with the sorority, must be in compliance with any and all applicable laws of the state, province, county, city, and institution of higher education, and must comply with Sigma Delta Lambda BYOB or Third Party Vendor Guidelines.

2. No alcoholic beverages may be purchased through chapter funds nor may the purchase of same for members or guests be undertaken or coordinated by any member in the name of, or on behalf of the chapter/colony. The purchase or use of a bulk quantity or common sources of such alcoholic beverages with entity funds, i.e., kegs or cases, is prohibited.

3. OPEN PARTIES, meaning those with unrestricted access by non-members of the sorority, without specific invitation, where alcohol is present, is prohibited.

4. No chapter/colony members, collectively or individually, shall purchase for, serve, or sell alcoholic beverages to any minor (i.e., those under the legal drinking age).

5. The possession, sale, or use of any ILLEGAL DRUGS or CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES while on chapter/colony premises or during a sorority event or at any event that an observer would associate with the sorority is strictly prohibited.

6. No chapter may co-sponsor an event with an alcohol distributor, charitable organization, or tavern (tavern defined as an establishment generating more than half of annual gross from alcohol) where alcohol is given away, sold, or otherwise provided to those present.

7. All recruitment activities associated with the entity will be a DRY recruitment function.

8. No member shall permit, tolerate, encourage, or participate in “drinking games.”

9. No alcohol shall be present at any new member/associate member program, activity, or ritual of any chapter/colony.

What is Sigma Delta Lambda's mission?

Sigma Delta Lambda is a service and social organization of collegiate and alumnae women committed to providing a support network geared towards women specifically, Latinas. We hope to aid in the retention of Latinas, and women in general, in higher education. We encourage interaction with other Greek organizations, the university, the local community, and most importantly the minority population. Sigma delta Lambda also holds high academic expectations for its members in order to help them succeed in life. The goals of Sigma Delta Lambda are friendship, scholarship, personal development, leadership, community service, and love and loyalty among sisters.

Loyalty: Members of Sigma Delta Lambda are required to be faithful, honest, and true to each other and work for the good of the organization, the university, and the surrounding community.

Commitment: As members of Sigma Delta Lambda, everyone must constantly remain committed to their responsibilities delegated by the university or organization and give one hundred percent effort in anything they volunteer for or are required to perform.

Self-Actualization: Sigma Delta Lambda understands the importance of decision making and allows its members to make their own decisions and voice their opinion without concern. Sigma Delta Lambda is confident that its members will make ethical decisions that reflect the organization.

Respect: Each member of Sigma Delta Lambda must show consideration to one another and retain a sense of honor to the organization. It is important to respect the goals of the sorority and those in leadership working to fulfill such positions. Likewise, it is vital that those leaders respect the members and do not abuse their powers.

Gratitude: Members of Sigma Delta Lambda must always remember to show appreciation to one another for acts of kindness as well as to the university and the surrounding community.

Scholarship: As students at the university and as active members of Sigma Delta Lambda, we must not forget that academics comes first. One’s studies and personal development are clearly a main priority. As a member of the organization, individuals must help one another accomplish our goals.

Determination: Sigma Delta Lambda members must always remain persistent when it comes to achieving their goals. We must never settle for anything. Instead, we must strive for doing our best at everything we do.
