The poor little duckling sat in the snow. Just as the sun set, he saw a large flock of beautiful birds. The duckling had never seen any like them before. They were swans with graceful necks. They uttered a cry as they spread their glorious wings and flew away. Away from this cold region to warmer countries across the sea. As they mounted higher and higher in the air, the ugly little duckling felt quite a strange sensation. He stretched out his neck towards them and uttered a cry. Could he ever forget those beautiful, happy birds? When they were out of sight, he dived under the water. But rose again with excitement. The Ancient Egyptians lived along the Nile River. The river runs from the middle of Africa up north. The Nile was very important to life in Egypt. Floods every year cover the land with fresh silt. This silt makes the land very good for growing food. People dug canals to grow more food. These canals moved water from the river to the crops. All around is the Sahara Desert. This made people stay close to the river. The people of Egypt needed the Nile to grow crops.

The next day the two sisters went to the ball, and so did Cinderella. The King's son was always by her side. His pretty speeches to her never stopped. During this, Cinderella quite forgot her godmother's orders. When she heard the clock begin to strike twelve, she thought it could not be more than eleven. She then rose up and fled. The Prince followed but could not overtake her. She left behind one of her glass slippers, which the Prince took up most carefully. She got home but was out of breath. Dorothy summons the Winged Monkeys and tells them to carry her and Toto home, but they explain they can't cross the desert surrounding Oz.
