Describe what tribalism entails and compare tribal culture to a democratic culture. Be sure to explain why a system of democracy is difficult to implant in a tribalist country.
Tribalism has a set of values that include obedience to a hierarchy, fidelity, warrior pride, respect for ancestors and elders, a willingness to lay down one's life for a cause, and a hesitance for outsiders. In a democracy, individuality is encouraged and people are praised for being independently successful. A democracy is difficult to implant in a tribalist society because of the differences in value systems and the differences in political ideas.

Describe the Yom-Kippur War.
On October 6, 1973, hoping to win back territory lost to Israel during the third Arab-Israeli war, in 1967, Egyptian and Syrian forces launched a coordinated attack against Israel on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. Taking the Israeli Defense Forces by surprise, Egyptian troops swept deep into the Sinai Peninsula, while Syria struggled to throw occupying Israeli troops out of the Golan Heights. Israel counterattacked and recaptured the Golan Heights. A cease-fire went into effect on October 25, 1973.

Describe to outcome of the Persian Gulf War and its connection to the Iraq War of 2003-2011.
The Persian Gulf War ended with a cease-fire and Iraq was expelled from Kuwait. Tensions continued to brew between the US and Iraq (former allies during the Iran-Iraq War) and when Iraq refused to allow UN inspectors into its country to look for weapons-bans violations, the US invaded.

Describe the Suez Crisis.
In 1956, Egypt kicked the UN peacekeepers out of the Suez region and nationalized the canal. Egypt was mad at the United States for pulling out of its promise to help build the Aswan Dam. Israel, Great Britain, and France attacked Egypt to try to regain control of the canal, but the UN called a cease-fire. Egypt gained international power while the other countries lost some international acclaim.
