Are there codes for the lockers?
Nope!
Is there recess or time to go outside?
Yes! 5th graders will have recess everyday.
Yes! It is a big responsibility! You need to make sure you have it charged everyday!
What does lunch time look like?
Lunch is at 12:39 but you will have snack earlier in the day! It is 27 minutes.
How do you sign up for band/chorus? Are there drums in band?
There is a form online that parents can fill out, sign and give to Mr. Greenwood, our assistant principal. There are drums in band!
Can you bring in your own locker lock? What if kids go into your locker?
We do not have students bring in their own locks. Students are good with one another's privacy! We do have cameras in our school if you report something missing.
What do the periods look like during the day? What's a typical schedule?
Our schedule is 54 minute blocks, with some exceptions. Sample: A - Social Studies. B - Exploratory. C - Math. D. Team Time/Recess. E - ELA, STAGE, Lunch, F - Science
Do you ever get to be with kids on another team?
Yes! Your exploratory classes will be a mix of students in your grade!
Is there still pizza friday in middle school?
Yes! :)
What are the after school programs/activities/clubs? Is there LEDS?
Pioneer Press, Game Club, Sci-Fi Fantasy Club, A Healthy Lynnfield, Girls Who Code, Robotics Club, GSA and clubs can be created! Yes, there is LEDS!
What is allowed for locker decorations?
Anything magnetic! No stickers.
Are there any class pets?
There is a school therapy dog! Also, some teachers have fish.
What do we do for arrival in the morning?
You can come into the middle school building at 7:00am. Breakfast is served 7:00-7:20am and then you go to your homeroom!
Can you sit where you want at lunch?
In the first few weeks, you likely will have assigned seating arrangements, but this is not for the whole year!
What kind of fun things do middle school kids do?
There are field trips, field days and spirit days/weeks throughout the year!
How will we know where to go? Will we get a map of the school?
For the first few weeks and when there are new exploratory classes, teachers will be escorting you around the building.
Do you have to sign out for the bathroom?
Every teacher will have some way of you "signing out" to use the bathroom. They may differ from teacher to teacher, but you will be made aware of the expectations.
Are all of my classes in the same POD?
Yes, all your core classes are in the 5th grade pod. Exploratory classes are mainly on the first floor with one exception, STEM.
Is there detention? Will the school tell your parents if you have detention? What happens if you skip detention?
Yes, there is detention. There are lunch detentions as well as after school detentions. Depending on the infraction, your parents will be notified, but honesty is always the best policy! If you skip detention, you'll likely get more detentions or lose another priviledge.
Is there student council?
There is a student council but at this time is available for 7th and 8th graders only.
Is gum allowed?
The school policy is that normally gum is not permitted. However, there are some circumstances, like MCAS, where it is allowed.
What is this new special called health?
You will have Health all 4 years! Every year you will learn about something different. Some topics include nutrition, drugs, mental health, good sleep hygiene, etc.
Do you have rooms like Mrs. Connell and Mrs. Brennet to go to? When can we go see you for a check-in? Are there helper teachers?
Yes! Ms. Botta and Mrs. Wilson are both available to all students! If you need to check in, first check in with your teacher. They can write you a pass or send us an email. You can also send us an email too! Yes! There are helper teachers!
Can you choose your own classes?
Unfortunately, you can not choose your own classes. Exploratory classes will work a little differently than what you are used to though!
What’s the process to try out for theater?
You will find out more information once the school year starts! Listening to announcements in the morning is important.
