The Mandate of Heaven - New family claims they can speak with the gods, which gives them the right to rule. People in the Zhou Dynasty followed orders from the family in power until civilization broke down
Dynastic Cycle - New dynasty brings peace, built roads and canals, gave land to peasants, and built strong military's to protect the people. In short, they took actions that made people happy. However, these dynasties eventually broke down. They could break down due to raising taxes, military breakdown, treating people unfairly, peasant revolts, natural disasters. In response, the ruling family would be overthrown and a new family would takeover and claim the mandate of heaven.

How did Buddhism spread to China?
King Ashoka of the Mauryan Empire became a strong believer in Buddhism and wanted to spread the religion and ideas. He sent people to spread it to areas outside of the Empire (located in present-day India). The Silk Road allowed for Buddhism to be spread to areas far away from the Mauryan Empire, such as China due to the interconnected trade routes of the Silk Road.
