The ability to do work
What is Energy?
The energy built up by stretching a rubber band.
What is elastic potential energy?
This tells us that energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be transformed into another type of energy.
What is the law of conservation of energy?
All matter exists as one of these three states.
What is solid, liquid, or gas?
The movement of a fluid, caused by differences in temperature, that transfers heat from one part of the fluid to another.
What is a convection current?
Energy that an object has due to its motion.
What is Kinetic Energy?
The type of energy in the flame of a burning match.
What is thermal energy?
Most energy is 'lost' as this type of energy.
What is heat energy?
When ice melts into water, this goes down.
What is density?
The transfer of thermal energy from one particle of matter to another. Usually works best with solids.
What is conduction?
The energy an object has because of its position; also the internal stored energy of an object, such as energy stored in chemical bonds.
What is potential energy?
This form of energy is stored in chemical bonds between atoms.
What is Chemical Potential Energy?
This is Earth's biggest source of light energy.
What is the Sun?
This is a measure of how much matter something has.
What is Mass?
The transfer of energy by electromagnetic waves.
What is Radiation?
Kinetic or potential energy associated with the motion or position of an object.
What is Mechanical Energy?
This the type of energy stored in a battery.
What is chemical potential energy?
The name for a material that moves energy very well.
What is a conductor?
This is a type of relationship where both variables are equal. (Hint: starts with a P)
What is proportional?
The transfer of thermal energy by the movement of a fluid.
What is convection?
The total energy of all the particles of an object.
What is Thermal Energy?
The energy in river water at the top of a waterfall.
What is gravitational potential energy?
The formula for calculating kinetic energy.
What is K.E. = 1/2mv^2?
(mass divided by 2 times velocity squared)
What is distance and time?
The transfer of thermal energy from a warmer object to a cooler object.
