Why is it important to cite other authors works, ideas, or concepts in your paper?
What is because it is considered plagiarism, which is not only against college policy (and could lead to failure of the assignment and/or course), but also illegal.
What is the proper way to cite a book with one author on the Works Cited page (list the order)?
Last name, first name. Title of book. Publisher, date.
If I paraphrase my source information in my own words, do I still have to cite in the paper or is the source on the Works Cited enough?
What is NO...both must be completed to avoid plagiarism.
If I have a quote that is longer than 40 words (called a block quote), how do I format it in my paper?
What is: I indent the long quote after introducing it in the paragraph above. Then I remove quotation marks (indenting is the quotation mark in this case only) and I end the paraphrasing with a period and then (last name and page number)--this is the only time the period comes before the (parenthetical citation). Then I continue the full paragraph with analysis of the quote.
What is an indirect quote?
What is a quote that has been cited by the originator of the quote and then the editor/author/translator is listed in the parenthetical (last name and page number). Both must be credited for the work.
