MN Dept of Human Rights added sexual orientation as a protected class from discrimination in this year.

1993!

Sexual orientation, which includes gender identity in statute, was added as a protected class in the areas of employment, housing, public accommodations, public service, educational institutions, credit, and business discrimination.

The bill passed easily in the House, 78-55, and was signed into law on April 2, making Minnesota the eighth state to enact such a statute. Another factor in this success was dogged persistence over more than twenty years.
