1892 Pennsylvania, Steelworkers called for a strike when Carnegie Steel called to reduce wages.  The Company hired 300 Pinkerton Detectives to protect the factory.  Many workers and some Pinkertons were killed during the fight.  The Pinkertons were aboard a river barge with loaded weapons and fired at the strikers.  Strike failed because many workers could not hold out, quit the union, and crossed the picket lines to go back to work.

1893 -1897 Chicago Illinois, Eugene Debs founder of the Am. Railway Union led a strike against the sleeping car workers / Co. during the depression of the 1890’s Train car owners cut workers' wages and fired many workers.  Result: - Debs and his strikers did not use violence, but they did not service trains with Pullman cars either across the country, but Railroad leaders convinced President Grover Cleveland to send in US troops to put down strikes, and violence broke out, and Samuel Gompers would not include his Union the AFL to help and the strikers eventually lost out.  President passed an Injunction ordering the end of the strike.

On May 3, 1886, Workers were upset with the killing of 4 workers by police during a strike outside McCormack Harvester factory 1000 Workers showed up in for a rally, someone threw a bomb during the protest killing 7 police officers and 67 bystanders. As a result, police fired on the crowd killing 10 and wounding 50. Eight strike leaders were arrested and 7 of 8 were found guilty, though no bombs or materials to make bombs were found. 4 were hanged.
