After Archduke is assasinated, Austria declares war on Serbia. Russia promised to help Serbia in case of war, so they declare war on Austria. Seeing troop movements, Germany backs up Austria and declares war on Russia, and later her ally France. The schlieffen plan results in Germany attacking neutral Belgium, and Britain honors their promise by declaring war on Germany.
