True or false: on the 15th night of Sha'ban, we should pray 50 rak'ats, recite 10 juz of Qur'an, and give sweets to friends and family.

FALSE. The hadith that we studied about the 15th night of Sha'ban is believed to be weak by MOST scholars - only considered authentic by a minority of scholars. Even so, we do not invent things in our Deen. There is nothing to be done on this night - no extra act of worship at all. The Prophet never did these things himself.

100

True or false: Allah only has 99 Names.

False - these are the names we're aware of. There are more names that Allah alone has knowledge of.

What is the definition of Sunnah?

It is the way of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم , his life, his teachings, his words (orders and prohibitions), his tacit approvals, actions, character, and physical traits

200

What does the Arabic word shuh refer to?

Shuh in Arabic refers to intense greed that leads to and includes bukhl (stinginess) and hasad (envy).

200

If the heart is corrupt, what will the state of the body be like?

The body will also be corrupt - everything starts with the heart

200

What are some effects/consequences of having enmity in our hearts?

Being deprived of the forgiveness of Allah, getting consumed with hatred and envy, having a hard time forming healthy relationships, etc.

200

The Qur'an

300

What is the hadith in which the Prophet emphasized following his Sunnah? Give a rough idea of what the hadith says.

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “Pay attention to my Sunnah (way) and the way of the Rightly-guided caliphs after me, adhere to it and hold fast to it.” (Abu Dawood)

Abu Najeeh al-’Irbaad ibn Saariyah radhiAllahu ‘anhu who said: The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم gave us a sermon by which our hearts were filled with fear and tears came to our eyes. So we said, “O Messenger of Allah! It is as though this is a farewell sermon, so counsel us.” He صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “I counsel you to have taqwa (fear) of Allah, and to listen and obey [your leader], even if a slave were to become your ameer. Verily he among you who lives long will see great controversy, so you must keep to my Sunnah and to the Sunnah of the Khulafa ar-Rashideen (the rightly guided caliphs), those who guide to the right way. Holding onto them with your molar teeth. Beware of newly invented matters [in the religion], for verily every bidah (innovation) is misguidance.” (Abu Dawood, At-Tirmidhi)

300

What is one way that we can use to remove shuh from our hearts?

By putting our trust in Allah alone and seeking our needs from Allah alone. The heart then does not have to ever worry about running out of what it needs or having to complete for it.

300

There is an area between the halal and haram that is sort of like a gray area - unclear. How do we approach things in this gray area?

The Prophet advised us to avoid these things - the one who avoids those murky waters protects both his religion and reputation

300

What is the definition of a makhmum [clean] heart?

«It is the pious and pure one with no sin, aggression, hatred, and envy in it.»

300

"My forehead is in Your hand" - what does this part of the du'aa mean?

It means that everything in our lives is controlled by Allah. What Allah decides to happen will surely do because no one can oppose Him.

When one controls an animal's forehead, they have complete control over it. And when we say that Allah has our forehead in His hand, we are saying that He does whatever He wills with us.

400

What are the Arabic terms for authentic and weak hadiths?

Authentic - sahih

Weak - da'eef

400

What is the connection between shuh and iman? Are they similar to each other or widely different?

Shuh and iman are opposites, and the more we have of one the less we will have of the other.

400

According to the Prophet, what is the definition of arrogance?

"Arrogance is the rejection of the truth and the belittling of people." Reported by Muslim (91)

400

How can the information we hear about others affect the heart?

The news that we receive about people plays a significant role in shaping our emotions and attitudes. It is difficult to maintain a clean heart after hearing disturbing things about others, especially if it is hateful. When there is no benefit in it, it is best to stay unaware so our heart does not get occupied with negative thoughts and dark emotions.

400
How can we use the Qur'an as a cure? Provide practical steps.

Stay connected to it by reading, reciting, memorizing, listening. Reflect on and learn the meaning. Learn the tafsir of the Surahs. Strive to implement its teachings and truly live the Qur'an.

500

Why is it important to know the authenticity of a hadith?

It is extremely important to know the authenticity of a hadith because alongside the Qur’an, the Sunnah is considered the explanation of the wahy (divine revelation), and the recording of the hadith provides the basis of Shari’ah (Islamic Jurisprudence. If a hadith is not authentic, weak, or fabricated Muslims can be led astray and would not be living in line with the Qur’an and correct teachings of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم.

Shuh includes envy and greed, like we mentioned before. If these things are not controlled, what is the end result of the prevalence of shuh?

If shuh is allowed to grow, it eventually causes people to shed each other's blood and violate the prohibitions, as the Prophet said.

«Beware of shuh, for it destroyed the people before you. It moved them to shed their each other’s blood and violate their prohibitions.» Reported by Muslim (2578).

«Beware of shuh, for the people before you were destroyed because of it. Shuh commanded them to be stingy, and they were; it commanded them to cut their family relations, and they did; and it commanded them to be immoral, and they were.» Reported by Abu Dawud (1698) and declared sahih by al-Albani (Sahih Abi Dawud, 1698).

500

What are some practical examples that show the effects of arrogance? Provide examples from Islamic history.

Iblees (Shaytan) was thrown out of Jannah and lost his high status because of arrogance. He used to be a righteous jinn, but all of this disappeared when he became arrogant and refused to prostrate to Adam.

Fir'awn - he thought he was a god and refused to follow Musa 'alayhis salaam

People like Abu Jahl - they thought they were better because of more power, money, or a 'better' lineage

500

As is mentioned in one of the ahadith, the best people are those with a clean heart and truthful tongue. The Companions continued to ask who were the second best and third best. What did the Prophet answer with?

We said: “O Messenger of Allah, then who?” He said: «The one who hates this world and loves the Hereafter.» We said: “We don’t know that in one except in Rafi‘ - the servant of the Messenger of Allah. Then who?” He said: «A believer with good manners.» They said: “As for this, it is in us.” Reported by al-Bayhaqi in Shu‘ab al-Iman (446) and declared sahih by al-Albani (Sahih al-Targhib, 2931).

500
