A type of heart rhythm problem in which the heart's electrical impulse comes from an ectopic pacemaker.
What is Atrial Tachycardia?
Cardiac arrest with no electrical activity on the ECG monitor.
What is Asystole?
Blowing or swishing sound.
What is Bruit?
A rhythm that begins in the AV Bundle; characterized by a very regular ventricular rate of 40 to 60 BPM.
What is Junctional Escape Rhythm?
A pause that often follows a premature atrial complex that represents the delay during which the SA node resets its rhythm for the next beat.
What is Non Compensatory Pause?
A pause for which the normal beat after a premature complex occurs when expected; also called a complete pause.
What is Compensatory Pause?
Having the same shape.
What is Monomorphic?
Early beat occurring before the next expected beat; can be atrial, junctional, or ventricular.
What is Premature Complex?
A rhythm that begins in the AV Bundle with the rate of less than 40 BPM.
What is Junctional Bradycardia?
The flow of an electrical charge from one point to another.
What is Current?
Varying in shape.
What is Polymorphic?
A noticeably rapid, strong, or irregular heartbeat due to agitation, exertion, or illness.
What is Palpitations?
Term used to describe rhythms that originate from above the ventricles but in which the impulse travels by a pathway other that the AV Node and Bundle of His.
What is Pre-excitation?
Slurring of the beginning portion of the QRS Complex caused by pre-excitation.
What is Delta Wave?
Fibrillation waves; irregularly shaped atrial waves associated with atrial fibrillation. Beats are at a rate of 400 to 600 BPM.
What is "f wave"?
Flutter waves; Atrial waves associated with atrial flutter; usually shaped like the teeth of a saw or picket fence.
What "F Wave"?
Cardiac dysrhythmia that occurs because of impulses originating from various sites include the SA Node, the atria, and the AV junction. Requires at least three different P waves seen in the same lead for proper diagnosis.
What is Wandering Atrial Pacemaker?
Any dysrhythmia in which the atria and ventricles beat independently.
What is AV Dissociation?
A rhythm that begins in the AV Bundle with a ventricular rate of more than 100 beats per min.
What is Junctional Tachycardia?
A machine with a sophisticated computer system that analyzes a patient's heart rhythm using an algorithm to distinguish shockable rhythms from non- shockable rhythms; and providing visual and auditory instructions to the rescuer to deliver an electrical shock, if a shock is indicated.
What is Automated External Defibrillation AED?
Delivery of an electrical current across the heart muscle over a very brief period to terminate an abnormal heart rhythm.
What is Defibrillation?
Term used when one end of an accessory pathway is attached to normal conductive tissue.
What is ByPass Tract?
Method used to stimulate the vagus nerve in an attempt to slow conduction through the AV Node, resulting in slowing of the heart rate.
What is Vagal Maneuver?
Three or more sequential ectopic beats; Also referred to as salvo or run.
What is Burst?
Moving backwards; moving in the opposite direction to that which is considered normal.
What is Retrograde?
