When is contact between two opposing players a foul?

When the contact "interferes with that opponent's attempt to make a play on the disc."

100

You hear "pick" called on the field. You echo it and stop running, but the thrower doesn't hear it and throws to you, a couple steps to your right. It doesn't matter whether you try to go catch it or not because the call was made before the throw anyway (T/F)

FALSEEEE!! You should always try to catch any disc in the air even if you know a call has been made. Even if the pick was on the other side of the field and/or didn't affect play, the turnover would still stand.

100

You lay out for a disc in the endzone and catch it (you stop rotation)! But the force of hitting the ground causes it to tumble out of your hands. Is this still a goal?

No. Players must survive ground contact with the disc still in their possession.

100

Stall comes in on ___ after a pick

Count reached plus 1, or 6 if count reached is over 5

100

You catch the disc while running into the endzone, but your first point of contact with the groud was outside of the endzone. You recognize this. What should you do?

Step out of the endzone in the place that is most immediately near where you currently are, check (tap) the disc on the ground and continue playing.

200

What is the only type of foul that can result in the disc being returned to anyone but the thrower?

An uncontested receiving foul (or a dangerous play that is resolved as a receiving foul).

200

You are playing defense and the offender you are guarding bumps into you causing you to stumble, while your offender gains separation. Is this a foul?

Yes. It affected play

200

You're the thrower and your mark smacks your hand as you release the disc. You call "foul," but then your teammate catches the pass anyway. Does the disc have to be returned to you?

No. The person who called the foul can yell "play on" and play continues as if the foul hadn't been called.

200

Stall comes in on ___ after a contested foul or violation

Count reached plus 1, or 6 if over 5 (same for offensive and defensive fouls)

200

Can you call a dangerous play even if you don't think you had a play on the disc?

Yes! (Unlike fouls) you can call a dangerous play even if the disc is nowhere near you and it wasn't going to be. It is resolved as analogous to general foul in that case.

300

If you are playing defense, you can call a receiving foul on the offensive player (T/F)

True

300

You can only call a pick or begin stalling when you are within ___ feet away from the person you are defending

300

You get a great D. You immediately pick the disc up off the ground but then realize that you're nervous about throwing, so you quickly set the disc back on the ground before your defender starts stalling you. Is this a turnover?

Yes. If you pick the disc up, you cannot put it back down.

300

Stall comes in on ___ after an uncontested defensive foul or violation (e.g. the mark making contact with the thrower)

1

300

You are marking. You see the thrower lifted their pivot foot before they release the disc while they are in the act of the throwing, and you call "travel." They finish throwing and the result is an incomplete pass. What happens? What rule is this an example of?

The result of the turnover stands. The disc is NOT returned to the thrower, whether the travel was contested or not. This is an example of the continuation rule.

400

If your opponent contacts you as you are trying to catch the disc, it is always a receiving foul, even if the disc is far away (T/F)

False. It is not necessarily a receiving foul unless you would have had a play on the disc without the contact. Simply put: contact that does not affect play is not a foul.

400

Name three marking violations

Fast count, wrapping, disc space

400

You get a D in the endzone, pick up the disc, fake a big throw, but then realize that you should carry it to the front of the end zone. Can you walk it to the front now?

No. Once you establish a pivot, the disc is in play.

400

Stall comes in on ___ after an uncontested offensive foul or violation (think offense pushes defense to get free)

Count reached plus 1, or 9 if over 8

400

Do dangerous play calls require contact? Elaborate.

No. Dangerous plays CAN be called even when no contact was made. However, take the call seriously and use it responsibly. "Contact is not required for a player to invoke this rule [dangerous play] where there is NEAR CERTAINTY that SIGNIFICANT CONTACT would have occurred had the player not taken LAST MOMENT steps to avoid contact."

500

Are there penalties for retracting foul calls? Where does the stall come in after a retracted call?

On defense, yes (stall resets to zero). On offense, no (stall comes in on count reached plus one or 9 if over 8).

500

You are on offense and you make a sexy cut, but your defender has to run around another player to try to catch up with you. You already had 3 feet of separation from your defender, but you gain 4 more feet because of the pick. They call "pick" and you catch the disc before hearing the call. Do you get to keep the disc?

YES! You already had separation from your defender, so you would have caught the disc without the pick. Rules say: "If the pick did not affect the play, the defender will still recover any distance lost, but the completed pass will stand." It is up to the defender to decide whether or not play was affected (ie if they would have been close enough to D the throw without the pick)

500

What is a "force-out foul"? What happens after?

A force-out foul is when you catch the disc but a defender contacts you while you are catching such that you land out of bounds or outside the end zone (when you would have been in if there had been no contact). If it is uncontested, the offensive player gets to keep possession and play resumes.

500

What happens to the stall count when there is a marking violation called? What happens if the correct adjustments aren't made?

The stall drops by two (count reached MINUS 1). If the mark doesn't fix their infraction and/or doesn't drop the stall by two, the thrower can call "VIOLATION" and the play stops. After discussing, if uncontested, the stall comes in on zero.

Wisco and Glue are on a give-and-go streak and Wisco sees that Pinky is wide open further downfield. She catches the next pass from Glue and without making any attempt to establish a pivot foot, takes a couple steps before releasing a beautiful throw into Pinky's outstretched arms. Is this a travel? Explain.

No. "It is not a travel if a player catches the disc while running or jumping, does not speed up or change direction while in possession of the disc, and releases a pass before THREE additional points of ground contact occur... In this instance, a player is not required to establish a pivot or stop as quickly as possible."
