Character Types
Usually, the main character or one of the main characters in a story.
Protagonist
All conflict types can be divided into two categories. What are they?
External
Internal
Poor Bill! He was trying to drive home when suddenly a twister picked up his car and parked it somewhere in the next county. What kind of conflict did he face?
Character vs Nature
Jake is Cassie's older brother. One day they are walking home from school when a cold front rolls in and the temperature drops 20 degrees. Jake is dressed more appropriately for the weather than Cassie. He takes off his hooded sweatshirt and offers it to her. She gratefully accepts. Jake is now colder, but he is happier.

Antagonist
A conflict or struggle between a person and something in nature, such as weather, animals, or terrain.
Character vs Nature
Bill thought he was ok after that twister scare, but now there are robots marching through the streets and rounding up all the humans. Bill is facing what kind of conflict now?
Character vs Tech
Craig is a football player training over the summer for next season. The coach demands that all players come in at 6:00 AM and lift weights until 8:00 AM, when practice begins. Craig gets there at 5:00 AM to begin his training.

What is tone?
AUTHOR or CHARACTER's attitude towards the audience, the subject, or the character
A character who only shows one or two personality traits in a story.
Flat
A person fights a machine or technology. Usually featured in Sci-Fi or dystopian works. It is sometimes lumped in with person vs. the supernatural.
Character vs Technology
Bill has to get out of here, but he can't decide where he wants to go to. On one hand, he could try and head home, or he could try to drive as far away as he can. He is torn because he is struggling with what kind of conflict?
Character vs Self
Anna volunteered to help Kylie clean her house. When Anna washed the mirrors, Kyle asked her to redo them. Then, while Anna was sweeping, Kylie corrected her on her technique. "Don't just push the dirt around, Anna, SWEEP it," Kylie told Anna.

Diction, Imagery, Details, Language, Syntax
A well-developed character who demonstrates varied and sometimes contradictory traits.
Round
A person is at odds with the roles they must play in society.

Bill finally settled on a choice and it was the wrong one! It seems some chainsaw-wielding maniacs were staying inside his apartment. What kind of conflict is he facing now?
Character vs Character
Corey came back from the bathroom and noticed that her rainbow pencl was missing. She looked around the room and saw that Beth was using a rainbow pencil. Corey started to cry uncontrollably and ran out of the room.

What is the difference between a static character and a dynamic character?
Static - A character who does not change/develop throughout the narrative.
Dynamic - A character who does change/develop throughout the narrative.
An internal struggle with emotions or ideas.

The new robot society has dictated that the chainsaw-wielding maniacs have squatters' rights and now share the home with Bill. He can't believe the new system in place. Bill has decided to rage against the machines, who are now his supreme overlords.
