How can you use 6 x 7 to find 7 x 6? What property can help you to solve this problem?

I know that 6 x 7 = 42 and the Commutative (order) Property of Multiplication says that you can multiply in any order and the product will be the same.  So, if 6 x 7 = 42, then 7 x 6 = 42 because the factors are the same.

Harry made 42 pancakes.  He used 7 eggs and 5 cups of milk.  Twelve of the pancakes were blueberry. The rest were banana.  How many banana pancakes did he make? Choose an operation and solve the problem.  Tell how you know that the operation you chose was correct.

The operation we should use is subtraction.  42-12 = 30.  We should use subtraction because we know the total amount, that there are two types of pancakes, we know how many blueberry, so we need to find what is left = banana pancakes.
