What are Essential Questions?
This is a story about a series of events that includes character development, plot structure, and theme. It can be a work of fiction or nonfiction.
What is a narrative?
These indicate a break in thought or speech and emphasize certain content. They can also indicate an unfinished statement or question.
What are dashes?
We look at these at the beginning of every lesson because they explain how each activity is connected to the common core state standards.

This is a writer’s (or speaker’s) attitude toward the subject and it is conveyed through the person’s choice of words and detail.

This refers to rules for the construction of a sentence. It's Greek prefix means “together,” and the root means “order” or “arrangement.”

Every activity offers a list of these, which are the various tools students have at their disposal to perform a given task.

This is when two or more things are arranged for the purpose of comparison.
What is juxtaposition?
These restate what was said by a person/character without using the speaker’s exact words.

This is the repetition of the same word or group of words at the beginnings of two or more clauses or lines.

This is two or more simple sentences joined by a comma and a coordinating conjunction—and, or, but, so, or yet. Its parts —called independent clauses—can also be joined by a semicolon.
