A big section of a play, kind of like a chapter in a book.
What is an ACT?
A signal that tells you when to say your line or do your action.
What is a CUE?
The person who writes the music for a show.
Who is the COMPOSER?
The items or objects actors use during a play.
What are PROPS?
The most exciting or important moment in the story.
What is CLIMAX?
A smaller part of a play that happens in one time and place.
What is a SCENE?
A movement with your hands or body that shows a feeling or idea.
What is a GESTURE?
The person who writes the words for the songs.
Who is the LYRICIST?
The person who makes sure the show runs smoothly and on time.
Who is thee STAGE MANAGER?
The part of the story where problems and tension build up.
Rising Action
A time when actors practice before the real show.
What is a REHERSAL?
The reason your character does something.
What is MOTIVATION?
The person who teaches and leads the singers and musicians.
Who is the MUSIC DIRECTOR?
The room backstage where actors wait and relax before going on stage.
What is a GREEN ROOM?
What happens after the big moment when things start to calm down.
What is FALLING ACTION?
The plan for where actors move and stand on stage.
What is BLOCKING?
What your character wants or is trying to get in a scene.
What is an OBJECTIVE?
The book of a musical that has the songs and the dialogue.
What is the LIBRETTO?
A person who learns someone else’s part just in case they can’t perform.
What is an UNDERSTUDY?
How the story’s problem gets solved at the end.
What is RESOLUTION?
The group of actors who all work together to tell the story.
What is an ENSEMBLE?
The different ways your character tries to get what they want.
What are TACTICS?
When a song comes back again later in the show, usually with new meaning.
What is the REPRISE?
The person who researches and helps explain the story or time period of a play.
What is a DRAMATURG?
The beginning of the story that gives background and sets things up.
